About Move Mood

Low mood and depression weigh you down. Instead, engage, initiate and activate. Build your power to lift this weight.

Most people, including children and adults, feel low occasionally. This is a normal reaction to events that are stressful or upsetting. It is even more common for teenagers to be affected by a range of moods, particularly feeling ‘blue’. However, sometimes these feelings continue or become extreme and turn into depression.

The overall prevalence rates of depression are suggested to be 2.8% for children under 13 years of age and 5.7% for those aged between 13 and 18 years. However, recent NHS Digital data (2018) suggested that depression occurred in as many as 1 in 4 young people aged 17-19. Depression responds well to psychological treatment through changing the behaviours and thoughts associated with depression.

Move Mood is an app developed for teenage mental health charity stem4 by Dr Nihara Krause, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and uses the evidence-based treatment Behavioural Activation Therapy to help you improve your mood by encouraging you to increase your motivation to carry out a variety of tasks in order to help you to move forward, take control and feel positive.

You can personalise the app by selecting a companion and you will be able to track your progress and notice change. You can download our guide to using the app during Covid-19 here.

Please note the app is an aid in treatment but does not replace it.
